I've been playing this song everyday for the past month now and I can't seem to get tired of it, it's timeless.
The artist is "Princess Nokia" and the song name is "Young girls". When I first heard it, I cried. I cried because it showed sisterhood, talked about indigenous women and being a witch.
This resonated so deeply within my soul. While other young artists her age are trying to emulate Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Selena. Here she comes Afro-indigenous and proud. Such a breath of fresh air.
I hope she inspires more young girls to embrace our indigenous cultures. Because it's beautiful. We are the original witches. We started this brujeria shit. Ya tu sabes!! Sisterhood is so important, that's why I'm so against the whole "bad bitch" thang. It's a tool to keep us competing against one another, to see who's the baddest. We aren't bad bitches, we are queens, empresses, Brujas, kandakes, wise women, and most importantly sisters. Who can learn from one another. It's time for a shift and Princess Nokia is apart of it. S/o to the ancestors for guiding her. I look forward to more magical music.
